A merchant or store issues a receipt or alternatively called proof of payment to a customer as a proof of purchase and payment done against the purchase. The merchant or store isn’t bound to issue a receipt but it is always preferred to issue one to the customers, or it should be asked by the customers so that both parties can keep a record of the transaction. They serve as firm proof of the deal.

Significance of a Clothing Store Payment Receipt

The citizens have the right to avail of the provisions of consumer law, which is applicable of a consumer buys goods or avails services from a seller. This consumer law abides between the selling party and the buying party and can be challenged by any of the two at any time. When a customer buys a product from a store by paying a certain price, they have the rights to the following points:

  • Promised Quality: The quality and standard of the product should match as promised by the seller.
  • Serve the Purpose: The product should serve the purpose of its technicalities, for example, a heater should heat the room and an air condition should cool the room.
  • Accurate Description: The product description should match as stated in the advertisement or on the caption of the item, for example, a black refrigerator should be black, not white.

A receipt generated helps the customer in challenging any of the above-mentioned points in a consumer court according to the consumer law, as the receipt majorly includes the above-mentioned details and is issued by the seller as a proof with their credentials/signatures. Thus, the fairness of business or transaction is maintained by the store through payment receipts.

In addition to that, there occur incidences when customers feel like returning a product due to several reasons. The return could be because the product is faulty or the customer does not require the product any more etc. In some instances, the stores offer a complete return and in others, they simply offer an exchange of the product.

In both scenarios, they always require a payment receipt from the customer, to check the details of the product, validate the claims of the customer, and authorize the sale by the store. Without a payment receipt, no store or business would offer any kind of exchange or return or any other service.

What should be included in a Clothing Store Payment Receipt?

Fundamentals of a clothing store payment receipt are as following:

  • Store Credentials: The credentials of the store or the business including its name, address, contact information, etc should be mentioned on the receipt accurately.
  • Customer Credentials: The name and contact information of the customer who has purchased the item and made the payment should be mentioned without any error.
  • Date of Receipt: The date of the receipt is the same as the date of the payment, which should be stated on the payment receipt.
  • Receipt ID: The number, ID, or any other form of identification of the receipt as convenient to the store, should be mentioned on the receipt.
  • Product Description: The exact details of the clothing items purchased should be included in the receipt. The details of the clothing items include the material of the cloth, the aesthetic details e.g. color, the volume number, the product ID (as per the inventory), the size (if applicable), and the quantity of the product.
  • Payment Details: The individual prices of the product, along with the sum total of the payment of products and the method of payment should be mentioned. Moreover, the status of the payment should also be stated, if the payment is due (partially or completely) or was made in advance.
  • Signature/Stamp: The signature of the customer receiving the receipt and the stamp of the store, company, or business issuing the receipt should be on the receipt.
